From Broadway to the Bard, this degree program features practical learning experiences, international theatre studies and the opportunity to both study with a highly credentialed faculty and be mentored by accomplished theatre professionals. Theatre Arts Majors will study Basic Acting, Voice, Stagecraft and the History of Theatre on the campus at Madison, then during their second semester of Sophomore year or first semester of Junior year, they will spend a semester at FDU’s overseas campus in England. Wroxton College is located just outside Stratford-on-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare and the home of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Upon returning to Madison, students will be able to track into a variety of concentrations such as Acting, Musical Theater, Directing, Playwriting or Design and Technical Production. They will also have many opportunities to intern with a variety of professional theatre companies, theatrical agents, casting directors or off Broadway production houses in New York City.
The Theatre Program produces four main stage productions each year—including a spring musical—in the 440-seat Dreyfuss Theater, all directed by professional directors. (Recent production photos can be viewed by clicking 'past productions' above.) In addition, the student run drama club, Starshine, presents shows throughout the year in a smaller black box space called The Barn.
An audition is required to be accepted as a Theater Major and additional scholarship money is available based on a student's potential. All relevant information regarding auditions can be
